What Do Ship Painters Do?
Ship painters prepare, paint, and repaint surfaces of seafaring vessels. Ship painters typically prepare surfaces for painting, apply paint and specialized coatings, and often remove previous coatings from metal, wood, and fiberglass. Ship painters other duties often include operating a chisel scaler or needle gun, sanding vessel surfaces, operating a high-pressure blaster, and applying other coatings including solvents, epoxy and weatherproof membranes. Knowledge of safe chemical preparation and mixing may also be required.
